The 10 Best Wheel Balancers

Bubble and computerized wheel balancers for the home garage, ranked from live Amazon data.

A wheel balancer lets you balance car and light-truck tires at home instead of paying a shop every time you swap wheels. Amazon sells two kinds: bubble balancers around $55 that find static imbalance with a level, and computerized spin balancers from about $650 to $1,200 that also catch dynamic (side-to-side) imbalance. We ranked 10 on star rating, review volume, and features (electronic readout, automatic rim measurement, alloy-wheel modes, and a stated warranty).

A computerized balancer small enough for a workbench: you spin the wheel by hand two or three turns and it reads the imbalance. It runs off USB-C power, so it works in a van or a garage with no spare outlet.

Best for: A bench-top computer balancer that runs on USB-C power.

Skip it if: You balance big truck tires; it fits up to 22 in.

  • 2D auto-arm and ALU2/ALU3 modes for alloy rims with stick-on weights
  • 12-month full parts warranty; calibration weight and two cones included

  • Max wheel diameter is 22 in. (the whole tire, not the rim), so big truck tires won't fit
  • Hand-spun, so it's slower per wheel than a motorized balancer
  • Sold under a generic brand name

How we rank

Every tool gets one score from 0 to 100, weighted 45% on its star rating, 35% on how many people have reviewed it (more reviews = more confidence the rating is real), and 20% on the features that matter for the job. The list is ordered by that score. Best Overall is our pick for the best all-around, ready-to-use tool; Best Budget the best value at or under $60; and Money No Object the one to buy if price is no object.

The features score is built from electronic (45%), auto measure (20%), alu modes (20%), warranty (15%), capped at 100. The review-count score is on a log scale, so each tenfold jump in reviews adds the same amount, and 1,000 or more reviews gets full marks. Open Why this score on any tool to see its numbers.

What changed

We re-check every listing on this page on a rotation. The most recent changes:

Buyer's guide

Bubble balancer or computerized balancer?

A bubble balancer (about $55) shows static imbalance: the heavy spot that makes a wheel hop. It works well for narrow car tires and occasional use. A computerized spin balancer ($650 and up) also measures dynamic imbalance, the side-to-side wobble that shows up on wide tires and at highway speed, and tells you exactly how much weight to add on each side of the rim.

What does ±1 g accuracy mean?

The balancer can detect imbalance down to about 1 gram (0.04 oz). Wheel weights are sold in 1/4 oz (7 g) steps, so ±1 g is more precise than you can correct with standard weights. Every computerized balancer on this list claims ±1 g.

Will a bubble balancer fit my truck?

The bubble balancers here fit hubs from 1-1/2 to 4 in. across, which covers most cars and light trucks. Check your wheel's center bore before buying. Heavy-duty truck wheels need a full-size machine like the KATOOL KT-B760, which takes rims up to 30 in.

What is ALU mode?

ALU modes tell the balancer you're using stick-on weights on the inside of an alloy rim instead of clip-on weights on the rim edge, so it calculates weight positions for those spots. The I40 PRO, KATOOL KT-B700, and MutsMover list ALU modes.

What else do I need?

Wheel weights (clip-on for steel rims, adhesive for alloys), a weight hammer or pliers, and a way to get the tire off the car. A computerized balancer also needs cones that fit your wheel's center bore; most include a basic set.

Tools to avoid

Not everything in the search results deserves your money. This one would rank dead last on our scale — here's the listing to walk past, and exactly why.

Senhontal

Senhontal High Performance Car Computer Wheel Balancer 680S

5.0 1 reviews   $1,099.99

At $1,100 it costs nearly as much as the KATOOL KT-B760, but the listing can't tell you what you're getting. The KT-B760 publishes its accuracy, speed, and measuring features; this one doesn't.

Why we'd skip it

  • The spec table lists the item weight as 1 pound and the package as 1 x 1 x 1 inches. A floor-standing balancer weighs over 200 lb.
  • The model field says "Tire Changers", the title says 680S, and the model number says SHT-9603: three different answers for one product.
  • The five bullets cover power, max wheel weight, and rim range, with no balancing accuracy, no shaft or cone details, and no list of what's in the box.
  • "CE approved" is the only quality claim, and CE marking is a European self-declaration, not a US safety listing.
