Battery-powered compact and plunge routers for edges, hinges and laminate, ranked from live Amazon data.
Ranked by ToolboxTop10 from Amazon data captured Oct 10, 2026. How we rank
A cordless router is usually a compact (trim) router on a tool battery: perfect for edge profiles, hinge mortises, laminate and quick jobs away from an outlet. Most of the best sellers are bare tools for people already on a platform. We ranked 10 on rating, review volume and features (brushless motor, variable speed, soft start, LED and a battery in the box). They run from about $70 for a third-party body on DEWALT batteries to $274 for DEWALT's 2-1/4 HP plunge router.
Batteries only fit their own brand's platform, so the best tool for you is often the best
one that runs on the packs you already have. Here's our top-ranked pick on each platform on this page.
A tool-only model skips the cost of a battery and charger you don't need.
Tools sold as "compatible with" another brand's batteries aren't listed here. They're made by third parties, and the battery brand doesn't warrant them.
Where the deals are
The tools ranked here come from DEWALT, Makita, CRAFTSMAN, Milwaukee, RYOBI, Metabo HPT, JEXUGK, SEESII, and DIYtoolifz. Prices on these brands move week to
week on Amazon, and the deepest cuts usually land around Prime Day and Black Friday.
Every price button on this page opens the live listing, so you always see today's
number, not the one we captured on 2026-10-10. If your pick is over budget
right now, check back in a few days — DEWALT and Makita rotate through sales and bundle
deals often.
The best-selling cordless router by a wide margin: brushless, with variable speed, soft start, electronic feedback that holds speed in the cut, an electric brake and dual LEDs. Bare tool for DEWALT 20V owners.
Best for: DEWALT 20V MAX owners: the cordless compact router to own.
Skip it if: You don't own DEWALT batteries; it's tool only.

Best for: Metabo HPT owners who want a light trim router with soft start.
A full-size cordless plunge router: 2-1/4 peak HP, a 3-position turret stop, micro-fine depth adjustment, an anti-rotation system that shuts it down if it twists, and AIRLOCK dust collection. DEWALT rates it at 256 feet of 5/8-inch roundover per DCBP520 charge.

How we rank
Every tool gets one score from 0 to 100, weighted
45% on its star rating,
35% on how many people have reviewed it (more reviews = more
confidence the rating is real), and 20% on the features that
matter for the job. The list is ordered by that score. Best Overall is our pick for the
best all-around, ready-to-use tool; Best Budget the best value at or under
$85; and Money No Object the one to buy if price is no object.
The features score is built from a brushless motor (25%), a complete kit (25%), variable speed (20%), a soft start (15%), an LED work light (15%), capped at 100. The review-count score is on a log scale, so each tenfold jump in reviews adds the same amount, and 10,000 or more reviews gets full marks. Open Why this score on any tool to see its numbers.

Buyer's guide
Is a cordless router as good as a corded one?
For compact-router work (edges, hinges, laminate), yes: the best cordless routers match a corded trim router and you skip the cord catching on the workpiece. For big bits and long dados, a corded full-size router or DEWALT's cordless plunge router has more power.
Do I need brushless?
Brushless motors get more cutting per charge and hold speed better under load. On a battery tool that matters more than on a corded one.
Kit or bare tool?
Most brand-name cordless routers are sold bare, for people already on a platform. If you don't own batteries, a budget kit gets you running for under $85, but its batteries won't fit other brands' tools.
What speed range do I need?
For 1/4-inch edge bits, 20,000 to 30,000 rpm is plenty. A wider range down to 10,000 rpm lets you slow down for larger profile bits without burning.
Can I put a cordless router in a router table?
Compact routers can go in small trim-router tables, but battery runtime makes them a poor fit for long table sessions. A corded full-size router is the better table router.
Tools to avoid
Not everything in the search results deserves your money.
This one would rank dead last on our scale — here's the listing to walk past, and exactly why.
A $37 DEWALT-battery body with almost nothing on the listing to back it up. If you're on DEWALT batteries, the DIYtoolifz costs more but lists its weight, speed range and a 5-year warranty; the DCW600B is the real thing.
Why we'd skip it
The listing names no manufacturer, warranty or weight. You'd be buying a model number (OU-10) from a storefront.
It claims 5 speeds from 3,000 to 30,000 rpm. Router bits cut cleanly at 10,000 rpm and up, so the low end of that range is no use for routing, and it's an odd claim no other router here makes.
It's a third-party body on DEWALT batteries, so DEWALT doesn't warrant it, and at 3.7 stars it's the lowest-rated router we considered.
