6-inch digital calipers for woodworking, 3D printing, machining and DIY, ranked from live Amazon data.
Ranked by ToolboxTop10 from Amazon data captured Oct 10, 2026. How we rank
A digital caliper measures outside, inside, depth and step dimensions to a thousandth of an inch: bolt diameters, board thickness, 3D-print tolerances and drill bits. We ranked 10 best-sellers on rating, review volume and features (a stainless steel body, IP54 shop-dust and coolant protection, fraction readout and a data output port). The big divide is material: stainless steel calipers are accurate to about ±0.001 inch, while plastic ones read to ±0.01 inch, ten times coarser. They run from about $9 for Adoric's plastic caliper to $140 for Starrett's.
The tools ranked here come from VINCA, Kynup, iGaging, NEIKO, Jiavarry, iGAGING, General Tools, Adoric, Fowler, and Starrett. Prices on these brands move week to

How we rank
Every tool gets one score from 0 to 100, weighted
45% on its star rating,
35% on how many people have reviewed it (more reviews = more
confidence the rating is real), and 20% on the features that
matter for the job. The list is ordered by that score. Best Overall is our pick for the
best all-around, ready-to-use tool; Best Budget the best value at or under
$10; and Money No Object the one to buy if price is no object.
The features score is built from steel (35%), ip54 (25%), fraction markings (20%), data port (20%), capped at 100. The review-count score is on a log scale, so each tenfold jump in reviews adds the same amount, and 20,000 or more reviews gets full marks. Open Why this score on any tool to see its numbers.

Buyer's guide
Steel or plastic calipers?
Stainless steel calipers are accurate to about ±0.001 inch and hold up for years. Plastic calipers read to ±0.01 inch, ten times coarser, and the jaws flex. Plastic is fine for rough measuring; anything with tolerances needs steel.
Accuracy vs resolution?
Resolution is the smallest step the display shows (0.0005 inch on good calipers). Accuracy is how close the reading is to the truth (typically ±0.001 inch). A display can show more digits than the caliper can actually measure.
What does IP54 mean?
IP54 calipers resist dust and splashing water or coolant. Unsealed digital calipers can glitch when dust or moisture gets into the electronics.
Do I need fraction readout?
If you work in fractional inches (woodworking, drill bits), a fraction mode saves converting decimals. Machinists usually prefer decimal inches or millimeters.
How do I get accurate readings?
Clean the jaws, close them and zero before measuring, use light consistent pressure, and measure square to the part. Replace the battery when the display flickers or drifts.
Tools to avoid

Viecam
Viecam 0-6 Inches Digital Caliper with Large LCD Screen and Auto-Off
4.5637 reviews$5.99
A $6 caliper sold as carbon fiber with plastic-caliper accuracy. If you want a cheap one, the Adoric is $3 more with 60 times the reviews; if you need precision, buy steel.
Why we'd skip it
The spec table lists the material as carbon fiber, but its 0.1 mm resolution and ±0.01-inch accuracy are those of the cheapest plastic calipers, ten times coarser than steel ones.
The spec table lists the model as 'nys' and says nothing is included, so the listing details aren't reliable.
It doesn't do anything the Adoric doesn't, with far less track record.
