The 10 Best Combination Wrench Sets

SAE and metric combination wrench sets for home, garage and auto work, ranked from live Amazon data.

Ranked by ToolboxTop10 from Amazon data captured Oct 10, 2026. How we rank

A combination wrench has an open end on one side and a closed box end on the other, the basic tool for nuts and bolts a socket can't reach. We ranked 10 best-sellers from CRAFTSMAN, GEARWRENCH, TEKTON, NEIKO and value brands on rating, review volume and features (SAE and metric sizes, storage, a lifetime warranty and long-pattern bodies). Start with a set that has both SAE and metric.

How we rank

Every tool gets one score from 0 to 100, weighted 45% on its star rating, 35% on how many people have reviewed it (more reviews = more confidence the rating is real), and 20% on the features that matter for the job. The list is ordered by that score. Best Overall is our pick for the best all-around, ready-to-use tool; Best Budget the best value at or under $30; and Money No Object the one to buy if price is no object.

The features score is built from both SAE and metric sizes (30%), storage (25%), a lifetime warranty (25%), long pattern (20%), capped at 100. The review-count score is on a log scale, so each tenfold jump in reviews adds the same amount, and 6,000 or more reviews gets full marks. Open Why this score on any tool to see its numbers.

What changed

We re-check every listing on this page on a rotation. The most recent changes:

Buyer's guide

SAE, metric or both?

Most cars, bikes, appliances and furniture built in the last 30 years use metric. Older American cars, trucks, trailers and farm gear use SAE. A set with both covers almost everything around a house.

12-point or 6-point?

A 12-point box end grabs a bolt at twice as many angles, handy in tight spots. A 6-point end holds more of the bolt's flats and is less likely to round off a stubborn or rusty bolt. Most sets here are 12-point; GEARWRENCH also sells 6-point sets.

What's long pattern?

Long-pattern wrenches have longer handles for more leverage on stuck bolts. They can be harder to swing in tight engine bays.

Do I need ratcheting wrenches?

Not to start. Plain combination wrenches are cheaper, stronger and thinner. Add a ratcheting set later for repetitive work in tight spaces.

What about warranty?

CRAFTSMAN lists a full lifetime warranty on the 32-piece set, and EFFICERE backs its 24-piece set with a lifetime guarantee. Hand tools rarely break, but a free replacement is nice if one does.

Tools to avoid

Not everything in the search results deserves your money. This one would rank dead last on our scale — here's the listing to walk past, and exactly why.

VEVOR 44-Piece Combination Wrench Set, Metric 6 to 32mm, SAE 1/4" to 1-1/4"
VEVOR

VEVOR 44-Piece Combination Wrench Set, Metric 6 to 32mm, SAE 1/4" to 1-1/4"

4.7 460 reviews   $92.90

You can't tell from the listing whether you're getting 44 wrenches or 25.

Why we'd skip it

  • The title says '44-Piece', but the first bullet says 'The 25-piece combined SAE and metric combination wrench set includes 6 to 32 mm and 1/4" to 1-1/4"'.
  • With the piece count contradicted, the rest of the listing (sizes, storage, what's in the box) can't be relied on either.
  • If you want a big set, the GEARWRENCH 81919 is a clearly described 44-piece set, and VEVOR's own 32-piece set lists its contents consistently.
