A ratcheting box end lets you keep turning a bolt without lifting the wrench off and refitting it. It's much faster in tight spaces where a socket and ratchet won't fit.

72 or 90 teeth?

More teeth means a smaller swing to catch the next tooth: 5 degrees for 72-tooth, about 4 degrees for 90-tooth. It matters in very cramped spots.

Fixed or flex head?

Flex heads pivot to reach bolts at awkward angles. Fixed heads are stronger and simpler. Many mechanics own both.

Metric, SAE or both?

Modern cars are almost all metric. Older American cars, trailers and many household fixtures use SAE. A combined set covers both.
