Real data, ranked. No fluff, no filler.

The 10 Best Band Saws

9-inch benchtop to 14-inch floor band saws for curves, resawing and small-shop woodworking, ranked from live Amazon data.

A band saw cuts curves, rips small stock and resaws boards into thinner ones, with a narrow kerf that wastes little wood. We ranked 10 best-sellers on rating, review volume and features (two speeds, a resaw height of 4.5 inches or more, ball-bearing blade guides and a fence in the box). Wheel size sets the class: 9- and 10-inch benchtop saws handle curves and small parts; 14-inch floor saws resaw boards 8 to 13 inches tall. They run from about $139 for WEN's 9-inch to $1,549 for JET's 14-inch.

How we rank

Every tool gets one score from 0 to 100, weighted 45% on its star rating, 35% on how many people have reviewed it (more reviews = more confidence the rating is real), and 20% on the features that matter for the job. The list is ordered by that score. Best Overall is our pick for the best all-around, ready-to-use tool; Best Budget the best value at or under $140; and Money No Object the one to buy if price is no object.

The features score is built from resaw (30%), a 2-speed gearbox (25%), bearings (25%), fence (20%), capped at 100. The review-count score is on a log scale, so each tenfold jump in reviews adds the same amount, and 1,500 or more reviews gets full marks. Open Why this score on any tool to see its numbers.

What changed

We re-check every listing on this page on a rotation. The most recent changes:

Buyer's guide

What size band saw do I need?

9- and 10-inch benchtop saws cut curves, small parts and stock up to about 3-1/2 to 4-3/4 inches thick. 14-inch floor saws resaw boards 8 to 13 inches tall and run wider blades for straight rips.

What is resawing?

Resawing slices a board on edge into thinner boards or veneer. It needs a tall cut depth, a strong motor, a wide blade and a tall fence, which is why it's a 14-inch saw's job.

Why two speeds?

High speed for wood; low speed for plastics, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals, which melt or dull blades at wood speeds.

Which blade should I use?

Narrow blades (1/8-1/4 inch) cut tight curves; wide blades (1/2 inch and up) cut straighter and resaw. Fewer teeth per inch cut faster; more teeth cut smoother.

Do ball-bearing guides matter?

Yes. Bearing guides above and below the table keep the blade from drifting and twisting, which gives straighter cuts and longer blade life.

Tools to avoid

Not everything in the search results deserves your money. This one would rank dead last on our scale — here's the listing to walk past, and exactly why.

DEWALT

DeWalt 9" Band Saw, 3.5 AMP Motor, Two-Speed (1700 & 2500 SPM), LED Worklight

3.8 8 reviews   $249

A 9-inch band saw whose listing rates it in a unit band saws don't use. For $30 less, the SKIL BW9501 is a 2-speed 9-inch with a clear spec sheet.

Why we'd skip it

  • It quotes blade speed as '1700 & 2500 SPM' (strokes per minute), the unit for reciprocating and scroll saws. A band saw's continuous blade is rated in feet per minute.
  • At 3.8 stars it's the lowest-rated band saw we compared.
  • The spec table says it needs 'Nonstandard Battery batteries' for a corded saw, so the listing's details can't be trusted.
