The 10 Best Corded LED Work Lights

Tripod and hanging LED work lights for job sites, garages and remodels, ranked from live Amazon data.

A corded LED work light floods a room, garage or job site with daylight-white light all day without a battery. We ranked 10 best-sellers on rating, review volume and features (a wet-location or IP66 rating, a stated wattage, dimming or color control and a telescoping tripod). Be careful with brightness claims: most budget lights quote 21,000-32,000 lumens without a test standard. A listed wattage is a better reality check, since today's LEDs make roughly 100-150 lumens per watt. They run from about $49 for Wufoty's 2-head tripod light to $120 for LUTEC's tripod light or NS's 150 W hanging light.

How we rank

Every tool gets one score from 0 to 100, weighted 45% on its star rating, 35% on how many people have reviewed it (more reviews = more confidence the rating is real), and 20% on the features that matter for the job. The list is ordered by that score. Best Overall is our pick for the best all-around, ready-to-use tool; Best Budget the best value at or under $50; and Money No Object the one to buy if price is no object.

The features score is built from wet rated (30%), wattage listed (30%), dimmable (20%), tripod (20%), capped at 100. The review-count score is on a log scale, so each tenfold jump in reviews adds the same amount, and 1,000 or more reviews gets full marks. Open Why this score on any tool to see its numbers.

Buyer's guide

How many lumens do I need?

5,000-10,000 real lumens light a garage bay or room well. Budget lights often claim 20,000-30,000 lumens without a test standard; a stated wattage keeps them honest, since good LEDs produce roughly 100-150 lumens per watt.

Tripod or hanging?

Tripod lights aim where you're working and move with you. Hanging caged lights light a whole room evenly from above, which is better for drywall, painting and framing.

Do I need a weather rating?

For outdoor or wet sites, yes. Look for IP65/IP66 or an ETL or UL wet-location listing. Indoor-only lights can fail or shock in the rain.

What color temperature is best?

5000-6500K daylight white shows colors and defects clearly, which is what you want for paint and finish work. Warmer 3000K is easier on the eyes for long sessions.

Do LED work lights get hot?

Far less than halogen, which is why they replaced them. Aluminum housings still get warm, so keep them away from plastic sheeting and flammable materials.

Tools to avoid

Not everything in the search results deserves your money. This one would rank dead last on our scale — here's the listing to walk past, and exactly why.

YKXJM Work Lights with Stand, 14000 Lumen, 2 Adjustable Heads LED Work Light

4.6 178 reviews   $43.99

A tripod light whose listing gives two different brightness figures. The Wufoty is $5 more, with the same 2-head design and one consistent 14,000-lumen claim.

Why we'd skip it

  • The title says 14,000 lumens; the first bullet says '21000LM super bright'. That's a 50% difference on the number the light is sold on.
  • The listing gives no wattage, so neither lumen figure can be sanity-checked.
  • It gives no voltage or weather rating, though it's sold for outdoor job sites.
