Battery hand planers for doors, scribes and edge work, ranked from live Amazon data.
Ranked by ToolboxTop10 from Amazon data captured Oct 11, 2026. How we rank
A cordless hand planer trims doors, scribes cabinets and cleans up edges with no cord to drag around. We ranked 10 best-sellers from DEWALT, Makita, Milwaukee, Bosch, CRAFTSMAN, WEN and three battery-compatible brands on rating, review volume and features (brushless motor, full 3-1/4 in width, a name brand behind it, and whether a battery is included). Most are sold as bare tools, so the right pick usually depends on which batteries you already own.
TengXcel EPT698SDEWALT 20V or 60V Flex owners who want a V-groove for chamfers.
Already own batteries?
Batteries only fit their own brand's platform, so the best tool for you is often the best
one that runs on the packs you already have. Here's our top-ranked pick on each platform on this page.
A tool-only model skips the cost of a battery and charger you don't need.
Tools sold as "compatible with" another brand's batteries aren't listed here. They're made by third parties, and the battery brand doesn't warrant them.
Where the deals are
The tools ranked here come from DEWALT, Makita, Bosch, MtiolHig, Milwaukee, WEN, CRAFTSMAN, Heimerdinger, and TengXcel. Prices on these brands move week to
week on Amazon, and the deepest cuts usually land around Prime Day and Black Friday.
Every price button on this page opens the live listing, so you always see today's
number, not the one we captured on 2026-10-11. If your pick is over budget
right now, check back in a few days — DEWALT and Makita rotate through sales and bundle
deals often.
The best-seller of this group: 1,000+ sold last month, ten times any other planer here. A brushless motor drives 30,000 cuts per minute, the depth knob is calibrated in steps of about 0.01 mm, and a kickstand keeps the blades off the work between passes.
Best for: Anyone already on DEWALT 20V batteries who trims doors, scribes cabinets or cleans up framing.
Skip it if: You have no DEWALT batteries; it's a bare tool.

Bosch calls this the first 12V Max planer. At 3.3 lb and just over 10 in long, it's about the size of a block plane. It planes 2.2 in wide, enough for most door edges, and Bosch rates it at up to 33 ft of hardwood planing per battery amp-hour at 0.04 in depth.

How we rank
Every tool gets one score from 0 to 100, weighted
45% on its star rating,
35% on how many people have reviewed it (more reviews = more
confidence the rating is real), and 20% on the features that
matter for the job. The list is ordered by that score. Best Overall is our pick for the
best all-around, ready-to-use tool; Best Budget the best value at or under
$70; and Money No Object the one to buy if price is no object.
The features score is built from a brushless motor (35%), full width (25%), name brand (25%), a complete kit (15%), capped at 100. The review-count score is on a log scale, so each tenfold jump in reviews adds the same amount, and 5,000 or more reviews gets full marks. Open Why this score on any tool to see its numbers.

Buyer's guide
What is a cordless hand planer for?
Taking a little wood off a narrow edge, fast: trimming a sticking door, scribing a cabinet to a wavy wall, easing a deck board, or straightening a stud. It isn't a thickness planer. It won't make a wide board flat or bring it to an exact thickness.
3-1/4 in or a compact 2 in planer?
Most cordless planers cut 3-1/4 in wide, which covers a 2x4 edge and any door edge in one pass. The 12V Milwaukee (2 in) and Bosch (2.2 in) are lighter and easier to hold one-handed, but they need two passes on anything wider than a door.
Bare tool or kit?
Nearly every cordless planer is sold bare. If you already own DEWALT, Makita, Milwaukee, Bosch or CRAFTSMAN batteries, buy the bare tool for that platform. If you own none, a kit like the WEN 20653 is cheaper than buying a name-brand tool plus a battery and charger.
Are third-party planers that fit DEWALT or Makita batteries any good?
For occasional use, the better ones (MtiolHig, TengXcel) rate 4.3 to 4.4 stars. They have fewer reviews, no clear warranty and no parts network, so a daily user should buy the name brand.
How deep should each pass be?
Most models top out at 5/64 in (2 mm); the Bosch 18V goes to 3/32 in and the WEN to 1/8 in. Deep passes drain the battery and tear out more. Take several light passes on hardwood and finish with the shallowest setting.
Does brushless matter on a planer?
A brushless motor gets more runtime from the same battery and needs no brush changes. Every planer here is brushless except the Makita XPK01Z, which makes up for it with carbide blades and a long record.

JEXUGK
JEXUGK Cordless Planer, 3-1/4" Electric Planer with 2 x 4.0Ah Batteries (JEX-DB01)
3.02 reviews$69.99
A kit on an unbranded battery that nothing else you own will use, and a listing that reads like it was pasted together from other products. The WEN 20653 kit costs about $28 more and comes from a brand with parts and a warranty.
Why we'd skip it
It runs on its own '21V' 4.0 Ah packs. They don't fit DEWALT, Makita, Milwaukee or any other tool line, so when a pack dies you're shopping for a part that may not exist.
'21V' is the fully charged reading of an ordinary 18V or 20V-class pack, a number some sellers use to look stronger than 18V and 20V tools.
The included-parts list starts with '1 x electric router stand' and ends with 'customized logo', and the bullets switch to Spanish product names mid-sentence. It isn't clear what actually ships in the box.
